Fachstelle für Migration & Integration

Outreach parent work is when pedagogic specialists visit families. Through personal contact in a surrounding that is familiar to the family a trusting relationship can be built between the pedagogic specialists and the parents. This can then be used to make further support accessible.

  • Families with a migratory background are visited when their babies are 4 months or older.
  • Objective of the measure is improving the native and German language to especially help with a later start into elementary school. These children need specific support. Often parents don’t know how they can provide this in everyday life.
  • This is where outreach parent work begins. The sooner a child find support in learning his or her first and second language the more sustained the success is.
  • Here families should be supported and strengthened within their resources. The key element of the program is improving the language acquisition of the children. Awareness of the importance of their children’s and their own learning of the German language should be raised among the parents. The parents are supported and strengthened within their abilities and their potential is activated.
